When I first heard about Duck Sauce, aka the all-star collaboration between producers A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, I had my doubts. A-Trak is one of the best DJs on the planet, being able to spin a golden era hip hop set as skillfully as any man on the planet (yes, even guys like Prince Paul and Jazzy Jeff take note), then one hour later switching it up and doing an electro/party rocker set that leaves people gasping for air. Still, his productions leave a bit to be desired. Then there’s Van Helden, who inexplicably appears to have lost all ability to produce a decent track after becoming one of the most successful and coveted remixers on the planet in the late 90s. Magically, their first single together, “aNYway”, doesn’t disappoint. It’s not mindblowing, but definitely a nice little french touch house track that’ll surely keep the floors bustling.
For the video, Duck Sauce tapped Paris designers extraordinaire Surface To Air to direct, specifically award-winning director Jeremie Rozan. The results I’d say are mixed — not bad, but certainly not as good as you’d expect considering it’s coming from Surface to Air. “aNYway” will be released October 26th on Ministry of Sound in the UK, and will also be included on their forthcoming vinyl-only EP Greatest Hits on Fool’s Gold Records.
There is another video with a 1974 ‘jackson-5 soul/groove’ theme to it, in case you haven’t already seen it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWM5D3MwSgA
