Austrian milliners keep it in the family

In my eyes, hats are an underrated fashion accessory, but when a company like Mühlbauer turns it into an art form, everyone seems to appreciate it. They’ve adorned the heads of some of the most famous names in the world, and they’re certainly available to the lesser known folks out there (assuming you’ve got the requisite dough).  The Austrian milliners have been in the business since 1903, so they probably know a thing or two about a fine hand-crafted headpiece. Now the fourth generation Mühlbauer’s, Klaus and his sister Marlies, are running the show and have just put together their new Spring collection, “Hello Josefine”, in honor of Klaus’ newborn daughter. Using a variety of materials, from taffeta to linen, the brand is able to create very classic shapes to perfectly  coincide with the historically inspired clothing that is starting to emerge for spring. They’re producing these high-end hats out of Vienna, but if you happen to be in the area, you can buy them at Project No. 8 in Brooklyn, NY or Fred Segal in Santa Monica, CA. Otherwise you may just have to cross an ocean to find yourself these perfect creations. Check out more of Mühlbauer’s collection in the gallery below.
