The band formerly known as Pivot drop their sophomore album "Church With No Magic" on Warp Records

Australia’s PVT have just released their sophomore album Church With No Magic on the peerless Warp Records. Leftfield, dense with textured sounds and more than a bit deranged, the band formerly known as Pivot have a headlock on damaged techno, for lack of a better term. Amidst all that digital rubble, however, are beautiful layers of vocals and melody — a swirling combination of hard-hitting drums, FX-laden keyboards and chopped and looped vocals that will keep you on your toes. Now PVT are about to embark on a lengthy European tour these next two months, and to kick it off they’ve released two remixes of “Windows” by two very diverse artists (Dorian Concept and Danimals) and made them available for free download. Before they took off on said tour we scribbled down some questions and sent them over to PVT vocalist Richard Pike, and he shed some light on his lucrative pen-selling career, the laser beams that shoot out of his eyes, and his boundless love for his cat Ted. He’s just a regular guy after all…that shoots lasers out of his eyes, that is…

If it wasn’t for  regular meals I wouldn’t be where I am today (this could be a person, trait, opportunity, etc)

The best part about my job is…
There’s not many redeeming features about stationery practitioning.

The worst part about my job is…
Sometimes pens leak, on my clothes. Mum gets angry.

The first piece of music I heard that I remember waking up my ears was…
Straight Outta Compton, coz I grew up in a ghetto and that track really resonated with me.

The last piece of music I heard that woke up my ears is…
“Lux Aeterna” by Gyorgy Ligeti.

When I get my next really big check, I’m gonna go score a…
It will all go to charity. For bees.

But it’ll never replace…
My cat Ted.

My one magic power is…
Shooting laser beams out of my eyes. Mum doesn’t like it though.

I’d like to give a quick shout-out to…
Tupac Shakur and Biggie. You were the best. Rest in peace.

And lastly, If I was Lost In a Supermarket, you’d find me in the…
Stationery aisle. Checking out the latest innovations. And pigging down on chocolate.
