From Giro helmets to premium Bont shoes, the world of cycling has an abundance of fashion-forward gear. High end British designer and avid cycling fan Paul Smith has been a major fashion contributor to the sport, showing a deep passion for cycling from an early age. He began racing at competitive level at age 12, until a horrible accident at 16 left him in the hospital for six months. The accident ended his racing career, but he remained a committed cycling fan. It was soon after his accident that he discovered his talent for design, and went on to become one of Britain’s most esteemed designers. Now Paul Smith has combined his two passions — design and cycling — in his latest collaboration with top cycling gear company Rapha. The purple and polka dot-infused collection of cycling accessories includes a city rain jacket, gloves, wallet, jersey, hat and scarf. “The freedom of the open road” is embroidered on key pieces made of natural and breathable fibers. This is the first collection of what looks to be a long and promising partnership. The collection will be available from both brands online as well as select Paul Smith retailers.
