There are some pivotal historical events that are integral we all learn as Americans, lest we forget the soul of our nation and what it stands for. There are aspects of the formative years of our culture that if we let fade into the ether of yesteryear, we threaten to fray the very fiber of our great nation’s rich history. I speak, of course, of Post-War Pinup Culture. A Gil Elvgren fan site has posted up a beautiful and large gallery of vintage pin-up illustrations from the storied American artist at the peak of the era, and paired the paintings of the semi-nude girls with photographs of the actual pin-up girls that modeled and inspired them. Call me crazy, but I cannot say enough about how hot these are — they are so much sexier than any Maxim or Nuts spread, and I cannot exactly put my finger on why. Maybe that’s exactly why they’re so stimulating, because you cannot put your finger on exactly what is so hot. Elvgren leaves just enough suggested, just enough stocking hidden behind the fold of a skirt or billowy dress to send your imagination into hyperdrive, whereas modern spreads of naked models leave so little to the airbrushed imagination that your mind just sits there lazy and overstimulated, like an overfed blitzed-out gamer after a marathon weekend-long session of Call of Duty. Anyway enough musing — check out the two galleries below (one additional after the Jump) and enjoy your weekday afternoon… perv…
