You can tell right off the bat that Oakland’s Kreayshawn is gonna be a very polarizing artist. First off, she’s a white female rapper — that’s two strikes out the gate; you’re not gonna invite a lot of love from either hip hop purists or haters. Second, her look couldn’t be more painfully hipster if she were wearing a giant Cobra Snake pendant with Ed Banger onesies. All that aside, I like what I hear — it follows that synapse that started back in the day with JJ Fad and Le Tigre, morphed into MIA and Yo! Majesty, and now has moved over onto girls like Rye Rye and that Die Antwoord albino. Plus her rhymes make me chuckle: “Bitch you ain’t no Barbie, I see you work at Arby’s — #2, Supersize it, hurry up I’m starving”. Nice — better than anything Uffie ever came up with. Leading her White Girl Mob, Kreayshawn just signed to Columbia Records — much due to this “Gucci Gucci” track produced by Staten Island’s Two Stack. The beat features some nice dubstep sub-bass tones which always tickle the cockles of my heart.
