Vertebrata's skeletal creatures in desolate & sullen human spaces

Marc Da Cunha Lopes, a photographer based in France, may be known for his editorial and commercial work, but it’s his personal artistic work that has led to recent interest. Considering TNT’s heavily hyped Falling Skies series debut this past Sunday, we can’t help recognize the similarities between the constant references to alien vertebra in that show and Lopes’ series Vertebrata. Featuring skeletal creatures in desolate and sullen human environments, one wonders if perhaps we’ve entered a world where art can’t escape the sadness associated with dealing with alien-like creatures — dead or alive — in our day-to-day lives. Whatever the case, Lopes has done an interesting job creating another photo manipulation worth discussing.
