A pop folk ode to Material Things

Don’t be surprised if you start hearing the ear-worm whistling of Jake Troth‘s first single, “Material Things”, in the most materialistic of places. The song is a 150-second burst of pop magic, a delirious ode to all things fine and expensive — the track’s melodic hook, matched with the simple “cha-ching” chorus, will follow you around all day. Writing music since discovering his mom’s guitar under her bed when he was 9 years old, Troth has since found his way playing with a wide range of musicians — even doing time shredding power chords in a death metal band. However with the pop folk of “Material Things”, it’s clear where Troth’s strengths really lie. “‘Material Things’ is a love song. It’s about the love of the world I grew up watching on television in the 80’s. The ridiculously expensive and lavish lives of those people I always wanted to be,” says Jake of his lead-off single. “The songs short length is derived from the short attention span of pop culture, and it’s melodies are as intoxicating as any cocktail. Beneath the patent leather and rhinestones though, there is an honest confession of what it means to be truly overtaken by this beautifully destructive disease: materialism.” Troth’s EP FRIENDS is set to drop on June 16th, with more releases waiting in the wings this Fall.
