One of our favorite social-activist musicians, Lupe Fiasco, is back in the game and honestly we couldn’t be more thrilled. After running into a debacle with Atlantic concerning the production of his second album Lasers, which gained a considerable amount of commercial success but was in no way true to the artist he is lyrically, die-hard fans (yes, myself included) have been anxiously awaiting the follow-up to his killer debut Food & Liquor. And so here we are now, with a new music video for the track “Around My Way [Freedom Ain’t Free]”, to be heard on Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. And Lupe’s most definitely back to form, lyrically packing a whallop over Pete Rock and CL Smooth’s classic “T.R.O.Y.” beat, leaving no socially taboo stone unturned: Land-grabs, war, gas prices, Los Angeles, African poverty, etc are all articulately decimated, while simultaneously giving a shout-out to the projects of America. In the video, directed by Alex Nazari, Lupe’s sitting stoop-side some doped up animated animals, walking the streets of his hometown Chicago with glowing eyes, driving a Lamborghini and stopping by a liquor store. Watch the video below and be sure to pick up Food And Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album September 25th.
