One of the more anticipated automobiles in the history of four wheels and an engine was just unveiled in Geneva, and boy what an event it was. As journalists clambered over each other, up stairways and spilled over balconies, all were straining to get a look at the fresh cherry red metal once the sheet was pulled off. And what Ferrari unveiled was nothing short of stunning… except in name, that is. The La Ferrari, as the new hybrid hypercar is sadly named, means — get this — “The Ferrari”. Clever right? Well they could’ve called it the Honey Boo BooMobile and no one would’ve cared — what the Prancing Horse premiered was nothing short of jaw-dropping. A visually arresting street-ready race car bristling with 950 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque ripping from its 6.3 L V12 engine. In addition to the V12, the La Ferrari features two electric motors — one that sends power to the rear axle and the other that powers auxiliary devices. The spiritual ancestor of the GTO and Enzo, La Ferrari imports much of its technology from Ferrari’s avant garde Formula One division — including a carbon fiber monocoque chassis that lets the hypercar weigh in at a slender 2,800 lbs. The hypercar will have a 220 mph top speed and reach 60 mph from a standstill in under 3.0 seconds. Blazing. Only 499 of the La Ferrari gems will be built, at an affordable price of around $1,000,000 each.
