If I could hold my Desert Island 5 in the palm of my hands, the Ramones would so be there. Without a doubt they’re one of my all time favorites. Not the greatest musicians, but that’s hardly the point. If you’re in LA on Saturday, Oct. 3rd and you’re with me about the Ramones being super rad and all, hit up the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (6000 Santa Monica Boulevard) for a screening of the 1977 Ramones’ concert “It’s Alive”. The concert was filmed on New Year’s Eve in 1977 during the band’s incendiary performance at the Rainbow Theatre in London. This is Ramones in their prime. If you’ve heard it (the entire concert was released in 1979) you know it captures the band’s intensity and raw energy like nothing else. It’s only one of the best live records ever. The night doesn’t end there either, after the concert screening on the 24-foot Mausoleum wall is over, they’re going to play the 1968 cult classic, Night Of The Living Dead in 3-D. Show up and you’ll get a free pair of JRA 3D glasses for the event. The night is a celebration for the 5th annual Jonny Ramone Tribute. And in honor of the festivities, Johnny’s wife Linda Ramone and Johnny Ramone Army Chief of Staff John Cafiero will be joined by original band member Tommy Ramone and CJ Ramone; they will all be on-hand for interviews, to meet with fans and sign memorabilia. “Johnny would have been really excited about this—he loved being Johnny Ramone all day long,” explained Linda Ramone. “He would have loved to see Ramones’ fans paying tribute to him; as he always said, Ramones fans are the best fans in the world.”

I’m one of them right here, which is why I’m also excited that there will be an art gallery featuring original paintings by Dee Dee Ramone and a rare Ramones memorabilia exhibit. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Johnny Ramone Research Fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus. Cemetery gates will open at 5:30 pm and tickets are a cheap $10.
