In one man’s humble opinion, the most beautiful car in Audi’s stocked arsenal of beautiful vehicles is the S5. Sure, the R8 will crane more heads, but that is more due to its menacing glare, supercar stance and brute force than anything. In terms of pure elegance meets power, the S5 has been king in the land of Four Rings. That is until the announcement of the A5 receiving the ultimate Audi performance treatment: the RS title. [As a quick aside, the base models of all Audi cars is the A (A3, A4, A6, A8 etc), the performance version is the S (S4, S8), and the super performance treatment gets the RS badge (RS4, RS6, etc)]. Featuring a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 (lifted from their ferocious RS4), the car boasts 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque — nearly 100 hps over the already powerful Audi S5. It’ll hit 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds on the way to a governed top speed of 155 mph, but if unlocked can reach up to 174 mph. The best part of all, however, is that the RS5 will receive Audi’s new seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission (DCT) — as our only major complaint against the R8, this double clutch is a huge boon, and hopefully will make its way into every high performance Audi from here on out. Visually the RS5 has the larger stacked three-level inlets up front, twin pipes in the rear and an extend-and-retract spoiler. It will hit showrooms this spring in Europe with a €77,000 (about $104,000) pricetag, but it is still unsure if the RS5 will make it stateside. Keep your fingers crossed…
