The battle between Google and Apple continues to heat up

Expect the Battle of Software Gargantuans between Google and Apple to only heat up in the future as the market gets more and more tight (throw Microsoft’s hairy beast into that equation as well). As revolutionary as Apple’s touchscreen technology was and is to the handheld market, that doesn’t mean they’ll be kings forever. Google has just made a big move to evolve gadget interface into the next level by buying out BumpTop — a Toronto-based tech start-up that built a 3-D computer desktop that makes files behave like physical objects — for a reported price between $30 million and $45 million. Of course this is all nascent technology, but check out the video below to see the Minority Report-like 3D interface, it’s pretty bonkers. CBC reports that the recent multitouch upgrade added more gestures to the BumpTop tool kit, including scrunching groups of files into piles, nudging files around with the edge of a user’s thumb, and zooming and cropping photos. Can’t wait till this is on my iPhone…errr, Droid…
