Weighing in at a scant 369 pounds and propelled by a potent 140 horsepower and 72 lb/ft of torque, Ducati thumped its chest as it unveiled the the most powerful middleweight sport bike on the market: the 2011 848EVO Superbike. Based on Ducati’s current middleweight Superbike, the 848, its “EVO” designation comes from significant all-around improvements, including impressive upgrades to the braking system via Brembo Monobloc calipers. Machined from solid alloy, the single-piece calipers grant supreme performance during the extreme braking that the track demands. Because of all new cylinder heads, pistons, throttle bodies and camshafts, its Testastretta Evoluzione engine also gains significant power output. To bestow the 848EVO Superbike with an appearance that matches its fearsome performance, a special “Dark” version will be available (above). Unlike previous “Dark” editions in Ducati’s past, however, the 848EVO “Dark” Superbike  will be the first truly black bike, from front tire to rear, shrouded in a matte black finish that will fill other streetbikes with fear. The Ducati 848EVO Superbike will hit US dealerships at the end of August, 2010. Notably the MSRP will remain unchanged from the 2010 848 it replaces: $12,995 for the “Dark” edition, and $13,995 for Ducati Red.
