Last year John Hennessy — Lord Madness of the vehicular world, creator of the Hennessey V700 Cadillac CTS-V and Hennessey Venom GT — dropped a Corvette ZR1’s LS9 engine into a Camaro, and the HPE700 LS9 Camaro was born. This week the Hennessy Performance team decided to go one step further, and chopped the top off said Camaro to create the 2011 HPE700 LS9 Camaro Convertible. Frankly the original hardtop Hennessey Camaro was already an insane animal, born when John Hennessey’s team stuffed the ridiculously large Vette’s LS9 V8 powerplant into the nose of the Camaro, and then tweaked it further to generate a whopping 755 bhp (@ 6,400 rpm), with 763 lb-ft Torque and a 0 – 60 mph click of 3.3 seconds. Insanity. Now they’ve taken those obese numbers and elevated things to the next level by cutting the top off. Only 24 of these HPE700 LS9 Camaro Convertibles will be made so don’t wait if you’re in the market for one of the craziest muscle cars money can buy — all 24 of last year’s hardtop models sold out quick.
