The best little Prog/Psych/Blues/Garage Rock band in Texas

Austin’s White Denim are a four piece honed on playing psychedelic rock with the balls and rhythm of pure, unapologetic down-to-earth Texas rock n’ roll. Named “Best Rock Band” at SXSW for the 4th consecutive year (by Gorilla Vs Bear), White Denim take influences from garage rock to twangy blues to black country and deliver something completely unique. After locking themselves into a studio on Lake Travis in Austin for three weeks, the quartet is ready to release the self-produced album D (Downtown Records) on May 24th. And to promote the upcoming LP, White Denim have put together a one-hour mixtape of their widespread sound — everything from Lee Hazlewood and Crazy Horse to Emmylou Harris and Billy Joe Shaver (some claim the true inspiration behind Jeff Bridges’ Crazy Heart). Basically, the perfect music to spend a torrid, humid Texas spring night gulping down beers with. Read our interview with White Denim’s bassist Steve Terebecki, check their video for their first single “Drug”, and if you like what you hear peep their mixtape after the Jump…

Allow me to introduce myself, I’m…
Steve Terebecki, Terrence Beckins.

You can find me in…
Austin, Texas.

I’m usually posted up at…
My house. I don’t go in public.

I pay my bills by…
Playing bass in a band called White Denim.

You might’ve heard of me because…
You watch TV and they play our music on there sometimes.

But why you really should know me is…
We record 3 records a year and are a really terrific live band.

If it wasn’t for my dog Devonte I wouldn’t be where I am today

The best part about my job is…
That I get to play my favorite instrument in a great band all over the world.

The worst part about my job is…
Being away from my fiancée.

If I was taking a train from Paris to Madrid, and I could choose one person to share the cabin with, I’d choose…
My lover, duh.

The first piece of music I heard that I remember waking up my ears was…
The Residents’ Commercial Album.

The last piece of music I heard that woke up my ears is…
Traindodge, a band that we saw at Norman Fest last weekend.

If you want to put a smile on my face, you probably want to…
Talk about trashy things that you do.

If you want to wipe that smile away, then you should…
Be a dick.

James Petralli, Joshua Block, Steve Terebecki and Austin Jenkin

The last time I saw the sun come up…
I was heading to the airport in Nashville on April 2nd.

The person I admire most is…
Anyone who is happy with what they have.

The last time I lied was…
Because I didn’t know how to answer question #3.

If you hit shuffle on my iPod you might be shocked to find…
Britney Spears.

If you hit shuffle on my iPod I’d be embarrassed if it landed on…
White Denim.

When I get my first really big check, I’m gonna go score…
An amplifier that I don’t have to repair every 3 months.

But it’ll never replace…
My record collection.

My one magic power is…
Throwing up while moving heavy objects.

I’d like to give a quick shout-out to…
My fellow music fans that download their favorite music for free.

And lastly, If I was Lost In a Supermarket, you’d probably find me…
In the Little Debbie aisle.
