When we first introduced Toro y Moi a couple years back (read our To Whom It May Concern interview HERE) we knew kid had talent. We pretty much thought his Causers of This debut album was the shit, and then he went on to record the even more ambitious Underneath the Pine (Car Park Records), where he eschewed the debut’s sample-heavy production for more live instrumentation. Continuing to support the album by touring worldwide, the South Carolina native (aka Chazwick Bundick) created this 37-minute mixtape for Modular Records Modcast series, apparently putting it all together while hanging out in bed. Now that’s chill. Like his music, the mixtape reflects the varied musical palette that Toro y Moi references — everything from the dubbed out reverb loveliness of King Tubby to the musical soundscapes of Ennio Morricone to the dreamy wistfulness of Julian Lynch.
