Just how Fender got in on the Nirvana nostalgia game with their Kurt Cobain 1965 Jaguar Guitar, so too has Gibson entered the wistful reverie with their Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass. In some ways, Gibson is the Apple of the musical instrument world: their design, quality and functionality go beyond many of their contemporaries, while boasting a history of introducing gamechanging products (the Les Paul and SG designs among them). Now, on the occasion of the 20th century of Nirvana’s Nevermind album and as a tribute to Krist Novoselic, Gibson is set to release its latest guitar dubbed the Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass. Through his time with Nirvana and the post-Cobain years with bands like Eyes Adrift and Flipper, Novoselic was known to use a Gibson to make his innovative music. The limited edition bass is finished with Ebony Black nitrocellulose lacquer and glued-in neck of solid maple. The guitar is shaped in the design of the RD guitars introduced in the ’70s and features an offset body style. The RD is crafted with a strings-through-body design to maintain optimum string pressure in the PLEK-cut slots of a Corian nut. A pair of Seymour Duncan single coils in the bridge and middle position offer premiere level sound. Controls include a separate volume control and a master tone knob. Each Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass guitar comes with a Gibson hard shell case and lifetime warranty, and retails at $2,199.
