Just half a decade ago Sperry Top-Sider had fallen somewhat of a fashion victim, but the iconic prep shoemaker has seen a Renaissance thanks in large part to Band of Outsiders’ designer Scott Sternberg. Sperry sponsored the California-based label’s first Runway Show at New York Fashion Week after Sternberg approached the Massachusetts cobbler seeking Top-Siders for his male models in 2008. “At that point they did not have their mojo back,” Sternberg is quoted saying. “But I would always wear Top-Siders myself.” Paul Sperry’s 1935 boat shoe — invented specifically for wet boat decks and inspired by the grooves on a cocker spaniel’s feet — is a blank canvas for Sternberg. He has done a number of collaborations with the heritage brand previously — from fur-lined chukkas to nylon Top-Siders — and the collaboration continues on into the Spring/Summer 2012 season with these limited edition 3 eye Tri-Tone Denim Boat Shoes. With a hippie-ish denim patchwork construction, waxy leather laces, reversed tongue, and luxurious cotton lining your summer will truly be one of love. They are available online at Tres Bien for about $200 (160€).
