Wow — can you even imagine what it would’ve been like to be at the above party? I mean, The Beastie Boys clinking glasses with Sean Penn, David Lee Roth and Billy Idol? At the same time?! Jesus Christ I can’t even imagine the 1980s-level debauchery — you can almost see Billy Idol standing behind Diamond Dave, re-enacting that scene from Ghost except instead of shaping a clay vase they’re molding giant mounds of cocaine to look like Tawny Kitaen‘s boobs. Just one look at Dave’s half masted eyes and you know it’s business time. The photos were all taken by vaunted rock photographer Glen E. Friedman, who shot that classic Check Your Head-era poster of the Beastie Boys (plus literally hundreds of other iconic images). Friedman just posted these images as a small tribute to Adam Yauch, bass player and activist extraordinaire of the Beastie Boys who of course passed away last week. Just seeing the tributes and memorials that are pouring in this week brings some joy to the somberness — it’s uplifting to see what an impact Mr. Yauch had on our culture and our cultural leaders. God bless you MCA, see you and your Billygoat beard in the next level…
