While hanging out at an opening with a bunch of local Barcelona-based female artists I noticed they were all wearing these beautiful pinky rings. On closer inspection and inquiry I was told they were handmade by Chilean-born artist Beatriz Fabres. So a few days later I went to visit the impeccably put together Beatriz at her delightful store nestled in the fashionable El Born area of Barcelona’s old city. The Store is filled with beautiful hand-crafted works displayed on white, washed-out wooden pedestals. It’s simply shabby chic escalated to the most sophisticated level. Of course I couldn’t depart with out making sure I left without asking the talented artist/designer a couple questions… and a delightful heart-shaped silver pinky ring for myself, naturally.

Where are you from?
Santiago, Chile.
Can you please in your word tell me how you started to make jewelry ?
I started to make jewelry making private classes, but never thought it would ended up to be my future. After a year of private classes I went to study jewelry and jewelry design in Florence, Italy… and that’s when I finished falling in love with jewelry.
When did you open the store in Barcelona?
I opened the store in Barcelona on February 2010.
What do you like best about its location?
I chose the “Born” because I love the location just beside the Picasso Museum, and also because it’s a neighborhood that has a lot of small boutiques where you can find the owners inside, more personalized attention and more hand made and unique products.
What materials do you mainly work in?
I work with silver, gold, natural stones. And I have also done pieces with alternative materials such as resin, horse hair, plastic, etc.
What is the inspiration behind your store?
I decided to open a store because I used to work at my studio at home, so I decided to open a place where I could work, and people could actually see me working. I feel that my shop it’s kind of an extension of my house, very personal, very intimate, and where of course people can buy what I do.
What is the inspiration behind your jewelry?
My biggest inspiration is women, women beauty and women bodies. I love to see them trying my jewelry, we all love to feel pretty.
Who are you clients mainly?
My clients are mainly women of every age and all over the world because I work a lot with tourists in Barcelona…
What is your price point?
It really depends on materials that I’m using, it’s hard to say because if something is made on silver let’s say it costs 150€, but if you want it in gold the price can be much more, even 8 times more.
Are all your designs hand made by you?
Yes, always!
Is each one unique?
80% of the shop are unique pieces and the other 20% are always hand made jewelry but using molds, so I can repeat them….
