Today in Miami Lamborghini unveiled the drop-top version of its landmark Aventador LP700-4 — arguably the best V12 vehicle on the road today, and the funnest V12 we’ve ever driven. The Roadster version of the Coupe was inevitable, but Lambo is surprising enthusiasts with a few twists. First off, the two-piece hard top is made completely of carbon fiber, making it both strong and very light. But unlike most competitors, the roof is not electrically operated but rather must be removed by hand. Promised to be simple to operate, the roof is stored in the front luggage compartment — that along with an optional wind deflector that reduces air turbulence. The Roadster differs from the Coupe in several ways, most notably its redesigned rear pillar and a two-tone paint scheme where the roof and the upper area are finished in a gloss black. The Roadster will also be available in a new “Azzuro Thetis” light blue paint (above) inspired by their 1968 Miura Roadster. Interior wise, a new “Sabbia Nefertem” leather upholstery is offered, otherwise identical to the Coupe — which is not a bad thing, considering what an amazing vehicle the Aventador is. Featuring a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, pushrod suspension and monstrous 700HP 6.5-liter normally aspirated V12 engine, the Aventador is simply one of the finest supercars in existence. And just because its a convertible (actually, it’s a targa but who’s counting), don’t expect the Roadster to lose much performance — it’ll still accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, only 0.1 slower than the Coupe, en route to a 217 mph (350 km/h) top speed. The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can be ordered starting today for about $380,000 (€300,000 ), and will makes its international premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of the month.
