In 2012, while going through the belongings of his parents Johnny Cash and June Carter, John Carter Cash found a stash of master tapes from a long lost non-released album titled Out Among the Stars. The album was originally recorded for his longtime label Columbia, but because Cash’s popularity had declined so dramatically in the 1980s the whole thing was shelved. So in one of the great lucky swings of American musicology, the album was found and will now see the light of day — due March 25th. This track, the painfully melancholic “She Used To Love Me A Lot”, was handpicked by John Carter Cash as the first song to be heard from the collection. “I really love this song,” he tells Rolling Stone. “The depth that’s there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life. And I truly think it’s one of the beautiful undiscovered gems in my dad’s catalog.” The song features the mandolin playing of Marty Stuart, while other gems on Out Among the Stars include duets with Waylon Jennings. As many people out there, we’ll definitely be looking forward to this one…
