Merc's flagship luxury barge loses two doors

Mercedes-Benz is shifting its nomenclature, ditching the old CL-Class model and replacing it with the more logically named “S-Class Coupe”. Seeing as they were both two-door versions of the reigning flagship barge S-Class, the new branding makes sense. An interesting fusion of exterior design elements, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe takes cues from the droptop SL, the regular S-Class and even a bit of the fastback silhouette from the CLS to create a luxury GT aimed straight at the Bentleys, Aston Martins and Maseratis of the world. The first of its kind will be the S550 — an AWD model powered by a bi-turbo 4.7L V8 engine, humming with a potent 449 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque. Other powertrain options and pricing coming soon.
