Although Frankie Rose is best known as one of the original founders of Vivian Girls, the sound of her new project, Frankie Rose and the Outs, has taken on a decidedly more shoegaze, slightly noisy direction. The Brooklyn stalwarts have taken their lo-fi garage sonics and penchant for rich melodies and upgraded the production, dousing the sounds in reverb and feedback. The results elevate the Vivian Girls’ Phil Spector-like Wall of Sound production to the next level. “I tried to make this album as hi-fi as possible while sticking to the sounds that I’ve always loved,” explains Rose. “I grew up listening to a lot of musicals and Gilbert and Sullivan operas, so harmonies are a given. I also was drawn to anything spooky as a kid — ‘Good Vibrations’ still kinda scares me. Reverb puts a haze on everything, you know?” Featuring the tracks “Girlfriend Island”, “That’s What People Told Me” and a cover of Arthur Russell’s “You Can Make Me Feel Bad”, their self-titled debut drops September 21st on Slumberland Records. We got the quick details on Frankie, and found out she shares pretty similar views on Twilight and LIAS favorites Wild Nothing. At least we know the girl has taste…

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is…
Frankie Rose

You can find me…
Somewhere between S6th and and N14th in Williamsburg, NYC.

I’m usually posted up at…
The streets, the stoop. Cause’ its summer, the rooftop.

I pay my bills by…
I book bands and bar-tend at a little venue in Brooklyn.

You might’ve heard of me because…
I WILL pick out the worst movie to rent. Terrible taste. Last 4 rentals:
1) New Moon (horrific)
2) Sex and the City Two (UNGODLY!!!)
3) Valentines Day (this was supposed to be the American version of Love Actually which is kinda a good, but this just royally sucked and I had to stop the movie and watch Beavis and Butthead reruns on Netflix)
4) Just Friends (OK. I actually I loved this movie, for some reason I can’t get enough of Ryan Reynolds)

But why you really should know me is…
As of late I am pretty into riding my bike around Brooklyn with headphones on. I know that’s pretty dangerous, and you are supposed to leave one ear free to listen for cars, but I have not been doing that. High risk behavior.

Check out “Little Brown Haired Girls” below, and hit the Jump to continue reading our Q&A with Frankie Rose…

“I pretty much just get to hang out with all my friends and get them drunk. And then I have a bunch of money in my pocket at the end of the night. Best job ever.”

If it wasn’t for _A.D.D_ I wouldn’t be where I am today

The best part about my job is…
I pretty much just get to hang out with all my friends and get them drunk. And then I have a bunch of money in my pocket at the end of the night. Best job ever.

The worst part about my job is…
I work Saturday nights, which can sometimes be a bummer.

If I was taking a train from Paris to Madrid, and I could choose one person to share the cabin with, I’d choose…
Hmmm… George Kuchar, Or someone else not boring.

The first piece of music I heard that I remember waking up my ears was…
I wanted to be Orphan Annie really bad when I was a little kid. I knew all the songs from that musical by heart at 4 years old. I wish I could say it was it was something cooler.

The last piece of music I heard that woke up my ears is…
Wild Nothing’s “Confirmation” — great song.

If you want to put a smile on my face, you probably want to…
Say something funny.

If you want to wipe that smile away, then you should…
Say something stupid.

The last time I saw the sun come up I was…
Sunday night, My pals in Harlem got in town at 2 am, since they were on west coast time we partied our pants off till 7 am. Fun.

The person I admire most is…
My ma.
