Rattan has been touted as one of the greenest, most sustainable materials to work with due to its incredibly rapid growth rate. Along with bamboo, there are strong movements to introduce the eco-friendly material in all forms of industry, and Indonesian furniture designer Abie Abdillah has designed a damn beautiful chair made entirely from rattan. His Doeloe Lounge Chair and the accompanying Pretzel Bench are stunning pieces, the former modeled after the Oplet — a small car very popular in Jakarta from the 1930s onward. Apparently, the round arm supports mirror the car’s round headlights. Very nice.
