The raison d’être of  Blood Bros — a DJ duo comprised of Dirty South Joe and DJA — is simply (and awesomely) to create mixtapes culled from the best 80s action movie and kung fu flick soundtracks. What on Earth is there not to like about that? Sure it’s not as cerebral as, say, Chris & Cosey’s Quietus Mix 008, but sometimes all you want in a mix are a couple tracks that make you want throw a lead pipe through some jerk’s torso while telling them to “stick around”. That’s just a fact, people. This first mix of the Blood Bros, brilliantly titled First Blood, features such 80’s action flick staples as Europe, Survivor, Sammy Hagar, Peter Cetera and of course the immortal Joe Espisito — you know, the crooner of that paragon of 80s Action Anthems, “You’re the Best Around”, from Karate Kid. As Mad Decent explain: “More than just a compilation of songs, the mix is 100% designed to follow the course of a film, starting with Training, moving on to the Fight….then finally, celebrating the triumph over the rival. Put this mix on when you are training on the beach, hitting the bag, chopping wood, running up/down a mountain, or generally doing anything which requires involves fierce determination and focus to win.” Rarely has a mixtape’s liner notes got me so psyched. I think it’s time to Tivo that Delta Force marathon on TNT…
