Finally, American supercar manufacturer Shelby Supercars (SSC) has announced the name of its latest Bugatti killer: the Tuatara. Although we posted about the vehicle being designed by American designer Jason Castriota at the beginning of June (when it was still being referred to as the “Next Generation“), the car remained nameless till yesterday. Named after a lizard indigenous to New Zealand, the Tuatara means “peaks on the back” in Maori — a clever reference to the car’s twin rear winglets. Moreoave, as SSC founder Jerod Shelby likes to note, the Tuatara lizard possesses the fastest evolving DNA on the planet — a cogent inspiration for the car developed to wrest the title of World’s Fastest Production Car back from Bugatti. Still many of the facts are being kept secret, but we do know that the car is powered by a Corvette-sourced 1,350 bhp 7-liter DOHC V8 twin-turbo which will deliver a 0-62 mph click in 2.8 seconds, on the way to a ludicrous top speed of 275mph (442 km/h). Now that should guarantee some fun times on the track…
