Today is a good day for film nerds of all colors and stripes, as a handful of film teasers have come out in the last 24 hours that shed a tiny beam of light on 3 of the most anticipated films of the upcoming year. They’re not trailers, really, more of a sideward glance at a trio of America’s best filmmakers. First you have Wes Anderson, the laconic genius behind Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums and of course Fantastic Mr. Fox, letting Bill Murray give you a little tour of his upcoming film Moonrise Kingdom (of which the trailer we posted here). Then there’s the auteur brilliance of Paul T. Anderson, the man behind Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, who teases his upcoming The Master — a story which follows the Scientology-like ascendance of a false prophet (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman as the quasi L. Ron Hubbard) and his lackey Joaquin Phoenix. Lastly there’s Adam McKay, who may not have the heavyweight gravitas of the other two but still has penned and directed some of the funniest movies of the last decade, including Anchor Man, Talledega Nights, Step Brothers and a bunch of Eastbound & Downs. After years of financial battles with Paramount Studios, McKay and Will Ferrell have finally worked out negotiations to make the Anchorman sequel the world has demanded. Considering how much the star power of the original cast has grown (Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Ben Stiller, Seth Rogan), it’s not surprising that money was an issue. Thankfully that was all been worked out, however, and we can now look forward to more adventures of Ron Burgandy and his band of hapless newscasters. Enough talk, enjoy the three teasers below and thank the lucky stars we have some amazing films coming up on our horizons…
