A 1979 trail shoe remastered

New Balance1

I like my New Balances. A lot. My favorite pair is a Japan-only colorway (neon pink and grey) I found while exploring Stockholm, which I instantly bought and drooled over in my hotel room. I thought it was funny that the sneaker I held in my hand was made in Boston, then shipped to Japan where it was then swooped up by some sneaker peddler and sold to a boutique in Stockholm, Sweden, where it fell into the hands of an American heading back to Boston. You ever heard of that movie The Earrings of Madame de? Probly not, unless you went to film school, but I digress. Someone should do a film on the Sneakers of Madman Mundt, and follow their unlikely journey through lands far and near to eventually land in my sweaty palms.

I also like the fact that New Balance still make their shoes in America, and England for that matter. No sweat shops and 12 year old boys with blistered fingers keeping New Balance executives up at night. So how come their sneakers cost the same, if not less, then Nikes? Don’t those guys make their shoes for like nickels? IF making all your crap in China is supposed to save you all this money, how come your stuff costs the same as shoes made in the USA? Some questions I guess we’ll never know…

New Balance have continued the relaunch of their 455, which began this spring, with 5 new colorways for this Fall. Designed and manufactured in New Balance’s factory in Flimby, England, the 455 is an original 1979 trail shoe, now updated with modern materials and sophisticated color blocking.

The New Balance 455 collection is available at Zappos, NBwebexpress and Classic Kicks and retails between $75.00 and $100.00…and you don’t have to lose sleep worrying about pre-teen Vietnamese kids missing their playdates…now whatcha gon do with all that extra sleep?
