To be honest, I was never a big fan of Masters Of the Universe. The characters were pretty stiff, and about as creative as you would imagine from a boardroom of executives inventing a new line of toys with matching TV show. (I would also put Thundercats in this groupthink advertorial category, although the animation was way better). But there’s still a tiny nostalgic tie to the MOTU dimenion somewhere deep in the recesses, so Funko’s latest series in their Pop! Television collection is an interesting one. Taking several of MOTU’s main characters (He-Man, She-Ra, Skeletor, Hordak and Spikor), Funko gives the usually buff and scary characters the Chibi treatment — the Japanese fetish of making characters appear like small children (big heads, cute features, little bodies). Not only are they fearsome, but they also get their own weapons. The “Masters Of the Universe” Pop! Television Collection will be released next month on May 21, 2013.
