Download Manu Chao “Politik Kills” feat. LKJ/remixed by Dennis Bovell

Everybody’s favorite Spanish-Basque-via-French-born Salsa-Ska-Raï-Rocker Manu Chao is releasing a remix EP next Tuesday, April 22nd, at digital outlets, and in stores on June 3rd. The EP features reggae remix collections of the “Politik Kills” track off his recent release, La Radiolina, by UK dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and his longtime collaborator Dennis Bovell, as well as Island Records founder/reggae archivist/probable scoundrel Chris Blackwell, Nortec Collective and several others.

More details and new video for “La Vida Tombola” after the Jump

Producers, DJs and mashup hooligans can download different parts of the track at www.PolitiKills.com and create their own remixes. Peep the music video and preview tracks from the EP and online-exclusive remixes. I’ve loved this guy since the Mano Negra days, introduced to him after visiting Chile where–like most of the rest of the universe–the dude is massive among everyone who has ever rolled a doobie. Like, the South American Elvis meets Bob Marley. He’s a bit too international to ever be huge in the US, but put him on at any party with a bunch of hot latin girls and you’ll be danced around more than a silver pole in Atlanta.

To get your live Manu Chao on, be in SF on August 22nd for the Outside Lands Music Festival (with Radiohead, Tom Petty, Wilco, Cool Kids and K’Naan), in Tijuana on August 24th, or Austin City Limits on September 26th with Mars Volta, NERD, CSS, Jamie Lidell, Jose Gonzalez, Vampire Weekend, Del and Hot Chip.

UPDATE 8/11/2006: Manu Chao’s most recent LP La Radiolina has been certified Latin Gold by the RIAA in the U.S., only weeks before his La Vida Tombola tour hits North America. The late 2007 studio release has also won Latin Grammy and Billboard Latin Music awards and inspired a worldwide sold out tour. Guy is definitely doing something right.
