The fact that this is the first legit DVD of Warhol’s silent film work pretty much makes it a must for fans. Shot at the infamous Factory studio between 1964 and 1966, and set to a newly commissioned soundtrack by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, the 13 subjects cover luminaries such as Dennis Hopper, Lou Reed, Edie Sedgwick, Nico and more. The DVD extras include a behind-the-scenes documentary on the live production of the 13 Most Beautiful… performances, and a video interview with Dean and Britta about Andy Warhol, the music and the project. For those with a bit more cash to spend ($250 to be exact), there’s a limited edition version that includes a gatefold LP-style packaging, an exclusive poster and booklet, plus one hand-printed archival 8″ x 10″ photograph of a frame from one of the films (see more images after the jump). The limited version comes out January 17th and the regular one hits shelves February 10th, 2009 via Plexifilm.
