acid-house

The Hippies had “Woodstock”, the Mods had Quadrophenia and the Punks had The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle. We get They Call It Acid: The Story Of Acid House Culture.

The feature length documentary, directed by Gordon Mason, takes you to the root of the scene—from Chicago and Detroit, to Ibiza, London and North England. The film is narrated by Robert Owens (one of the most distinctive voices of house music), with a soundtrack compiled by DJ “Evil” Eddie Richards (one of the UK’s foremost pioneers of the house music sound) and also includes a plethora of interviews with both the originators (A Guy Called Gerald, Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Carl Cox, Derrick May, Danny Rampling, Evil Eddie Richards, Jesse Saunders and Pete Tong to name a few) and followers of the scene. Even better, Gordon Mason dug up a whole bunch of unique film footage from many of the first illegal clubs and parties as well as never-before-seen footage of police raids as they clamped down on the scene.

I’ve got acid on the brain now. Lemme give you some of what I’ve got. Here’s a quick playlist I put together with the 303 in mind. 25 tracks in no particular order. You might have to hit up our Imeem page to hear the tracks in full. Hope you enjoy the selection….
