The 2011 version of the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang is replacing its iron block engine with an all alloy aluminum supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that weighs less, delivers 550 hp (510 lb-ft of torque) and uses a unique spray-coating process that eliminates the need for cast-iron liners in the aluminum cylinder block — altogether shaving 102 pounds from the engine. Thanks to its 23 mpg/highway and 15 mpg/city fuel efficiency, the Shelby GT500 also drops its gas-guzzler tax. Sold in both coupe and convertible body styles as early as this spring, the new Shelby will also get Ford’s electronic power-assist steering system and high-intensity headlamps, an optional glass roof for the coupe and two new colors: Race Red and Ingot Silver Metallic.

    The new GT500 has replaced the heavy iron-block engine with aluminum 5.4-L supercharged engine, it not only propels well, but the reduced weight has been helped in increased the 60mph sprint.
