Keep track of the books you loan out to your deadbeat friends with the Personal Library Kit

For those who can remember what paper is, you may also remember what books are too — although you may be scratching your head wondering what a library is as you cling to your iPad while it downloads Stephen King’s latest lofty tome in under 3 minutes. Well, perhaps you should take a gander at the Personal Library Kit — it may begin to bring up memories deep below your surface…memories of that cranky bitch of a librarian stamping the date with an iron fist into your favorite novel as she warned you of the 10 cent late fee if it should be a minute late. Ok, well not everyone experiences at the library were so dramatic, but whether or not they were, all of us who continue to embrace the paper form in the digital age can now keep track of the books we loan out to our ingrate friends with this handy library kit. It comes complete with a date stamp and ink-pad (to note when said item was borrowed), 20 self-adhesive pockets, 20 checkout cards…and a miniature pencil to maintain authenticity, of course. The Personal Library Kit is $21, and you should probably pick one up because your well-worn paperbacks will soon be considered antiques — and you too may have to jump on the digital reader bandwagon…but, hopefully, that sad day that will never come.

  1. Oh, you have no idea! I found one of these at a yard sale and LOVE it. (Who would get rid of this gem!)

As a girl, I played library after school in my room, with my books and the stamped library card that accompanies every book.

Now I use the date stamp in my journal and every single person who sees my pages comments on the date stamp. I think people resonate with that old analog libe vibe.

When I check out books, I use a cute folder of check-out forms I bought at Thé des Ecrivains in Paris. It’s in French, which makes it extra fun, of course.

@Cynthia – I’m glad I’m not the only one who played at libraries! :D I may have the body of weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a geek! Oh yes! :D
