Do you want to convert your Apple iPad into the greatest piece of DJ equipment ever known to mankind (R.I.P. Technics)? Well good luck, that ain’t gonna happen anytime soon. What we may have very soon, however, is a passable replica. Software maker Algoriddim is allegedly converting their popular djay app for Mac to the iPad, which is great news to laptop DJs everywhere. While the idea of condensing DJ equipment into a much more portable sized gadget is a boon to bringing good music to more places, it will never replace the magic of 2 turntables and a microphone. Sure it makes skills like beatmatching and scratching available to any monkey with a tablet, but what about actually taking the months and years of practice it requires to actually learn said skills? Is it not just another crippling blow to the art of turntablism? I say learn the skills the hard way, and then use software like the Djay app to bring good music to more remote locales. So why has it taken so long for a DJ app to hit the iPad market you might ask? According to MacRumors, “The primary reason is that the iPad has been stuck on iOS 3.2 which offers far fewer audio-related options than the 4.x build. But with the imminent release of iOS 4.2, at least one developer is going to finally deliver a full featured iPad DJ app…taking full advantage of the new iOS 4.2 audio features.” Here’s to rocking the block with an electronic pad…
