Artist Kate McDowell‘s porcelain sculptures are not only breathtaking in their amount of vivid detail, but they also hold an intrinsic meaning behind them. Like much of the art today, they resonate with the everlasting struggle of Man versus Nature. Her sculptures consists of wild animals using tools to survive the world in the environmental destruction man has caused. Others incorporate an animal’s carcass with a human skeleton lying inside, which may be a bit more ambiguous, but seems pretty clear that McDowell is trying to show that in the end man is held responsible for the destruction of these animals and the environment. Politics and world issues aren’t your thing? You can still appreciate the amount of detail and beauty of these pristine porcelain sculptures, with hand molded individual branches and body parts pieced together to create singular magnificent pieces.
