Gebrüder Teichmann, aka The Teichmann Brothers, are an experimental Techno duo operating out of Boogie Down Berlin. They’re literally siblings, and have been making music together since as far back as they can both remember. They swear by analogue machines, fight for the preservation of analogue sound carriers, and don’t really care much about rigid genre constraints.
Last year they made a serious ruckus with Jahcoozi, Modeselektor and a host of Kenyan vocalists while promoting BLNRB — a collaborative project that matched the high level German producers with African singers. The project took a total of two years to come to full fruition, sessions and workshops were set up in both Nairobi and Berlin, files shuttled back forth till a hybrid Sci-Fi African-Kraut sound was born.
The brothers are now back with their new full length entitled They Made Us Do It — it’s a vibrant, well seasoned gumbo of experimental music. Read about it below…
Allow me to introduce myself, we are…
The Brothers Andi and Hannes Teichmann, better known as Gebrüder Teichmann / Teichmann Brothers
You can find me…
In Berlin, this German City that used to have a wall. There are a lot of hidden places that make that city so special. But you’ll probably find us at one of our favorite Clubs Ritter Butzke on 18th November, where we’ll present our new album. At the daytime you can find us between the playgrounds and bars in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg.
You might’ve heard of us…
Because we share our passion for music with our audience for more then 20 years. To make this long story short, we put this Audio Biography online.
But why you really should know us is…
Because, we had an unexpected synthesizer accident, which ended up in a global invasion of record shaped UFOs (that’s what people are saying). But it wasn’t our fault: the machines made us do it. You can listen to it on our new Album or catch us on our Tour, which we’ll be on together with our machines for the next ex amount of months. After that we are planning some more intercultural exchange projects, like BLNRB that we did with Jahcoozi and Modeselektor from Berlin and a lot of Kenyan musicians the last two years.
If it wasn’t for passion I wouldn’t be where I am today
The first piece of music I heard that I remember waking up my ears was…
Andi: The first one that really woke me up was The Jesus and Mary Chain – “Psychocandy” and in terms of electronic music: Robert Hood – “Minimal Nation”
Hannes: There was a great underground scene in our hometown Regensburg, with punk & wave bands like Tango Pervers, Gestapo D’Amour or The Living Drugs. To see these Bands live and even to share the stages or the rehearsing room, woke me up more than records. My first Techno record I used to play on heavy rotation was the compilation “Tresor 1992 – Auferstanden aus Ruinen.”

“We were born into a musical family and music is a essential part of our lives. Even if we wouldn’t be pros now, we would never think about giving up music…”
The last piece of music I heard that woke up my ears is…
Andi: Mesak – “Moto-Gucci”
Hannes: Sigbjorn Apeland – “Glossolalia”
I hate to admit it, but I almost gave music up when…
This was never a question for us. We were born into a musical family and music is a essential part of our lives. Even if we wouldn’t be pros now, we would never think about giving up music.
But it all came together when…
We started our first punk band at the age of 13 (Andi) and 10 (Hannes) years. We still keep this DIY open minded attitude with exploring things, when we started electronic music and even when we worked with classical musicians etc. that’s the most important thing.
If I was taking a train from Paris to Madrid, the one person I’d want to share the cabin with would be…
My brother and I. We would discuss our work, cause the train is the only place where we can talk for hours without fighting.
If you want to put a smile on my face, you probably want to…
Give me a good meal.
If you want to wipe that smile away, then you should…
Disturb me while I’m in the mix with 2 records or playing live.
The last time I saw the sun come up I was…
Last weekend, after the party…
The person I admire most is…
Andi: Don Quixote.
Hannes: My 2 Kids.
The last time I lied was because…
There was too much traffic to be on time…
If you hit shuffle on my iPod you might be shocked to find…
Phantomas or Justin Timberlake.
If you hit shuffle on my iPod I’d be embarrassed if it landed on…
New classical music.
When I get my next really big check, I’m gonna go score a…
Andi: pay overdue bills.
Hannes: buy a new home or a garden.
But it’ll never replace my…
Studio and my records.
My one magic power is…
Andi: flexibility
Hannes: emotion
I’d like to give a quick shout-out to…
All aliens.
And lastly, If I was Lost In a Supermarket…
You’d find me in the wine area, trying to make a decision.
