Producer Terry Urban gets his finger right on the zeitgeist with his latest mixtape offering, a mashup of The Notorious B.I.G. with Lana del Rey. Considering last Friday (March 9th) marked the 15th anniversary of the heralded rapper’s untimely passing, and the omnipresence of Del Rey on all forms of media, the mashup seems especially timely. It also seems bound to happen, given the proximity of the titles of their debut albums which Urban conflated for the title of his mixtape: Born Ready To Die. As Urban explains: “The music from Lana’s Born To Die and the lyrics from Biggie’s Ready To Die… still timeless after all these years. It’s a perfect marriage… dark and mysterious… soulful and gritty. Lana told Vogue Magazine that Biggie was one of her biggest musical influences… and now… he is her musical collaborator.”
