Glenmorangie recently unveiled the latest spirit in its Private Edition range of limited edition expressions, titled Glenmorangie Finealta — which is Scottish Gaelic for ‘elegant’. What makes it especially noteworthy is it is a painstaking recreation of a century-old Glenmorangie recipe recently unearthed in the distillery’s archives. “Glenmorangie decided to recreate this recipe so that we, and whisky connoisseurs, could have a taste of this historic Glenmorangie expression,” explains Glenmorangie Head Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden. “We followed the recipe meticulously, which included marrying whiskies of different ages and from different cask types. The final result is a whisky of such depth and distinction that we selected it as the second release in Glenmorangie’s exclusive Private Edition.” The recipe dates back to 1903, when this single malt scotch was served in the American Bar of The Savoy, one of London’s most exclusive hotels. Because of its La Belle Époque connection, the bottle is inspired by Art Nouveau elements, incorporating floral and plant motifs into its packaging. Further tying it to its past roots, Glenmorangie Finealta will be featured at The Savoy’s grand relaunch on October 10th. For the rest of the world, the 46% scotch will become available starting this month for about $90.
