A tribute to one of the most sampled men in music history

On Thursday and Friday November 17 & 18 what looks to be an amazing event is going down in Los Angeles at Exchange LA. In a well named tribute to the great Roy Ayers, Homage is taking place with Pete Rock turntabling live with soul & funk legend Ayers and his band. One of the most sampled roots artists on Earth, it’s a fitting event to not only pay deserved tribute but also to undoubtedly enjoy some epic music. The event will be hosted by KCRW’s Garth Trinidad with DJ J.Rocc and Thundercat opening. To promote the special 2 night engagement, Anthony Valadez put together this Homage mixtape below featuring some of Roy Ayers classic cuts, plus tracks that have sampled him as well as some purpose-built flows. Valadez himself will be spinning in the lounge alongside Clifton Weaver, Destroyer, Lee Joseph and Marlon Fuentes. Tix are available now for $25, $30 at the door. Tho it’ll probably sell out, so you best not sleep.
