Continuing in his quest to have whisky-guzzlers worldwide give up their overly-commercialized yet beloved bottle of Jack Daniels, Ian Buxton has released a sequel to his 2010 guide 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die. In light of a more cosmopolitan approach to enjoying Scotland’s national drink, the illustrious tippler renounces the obvious whiskies in favor of another 101 whiskies that every inner-Irishman should try. Casting his nets even wider the second time around, Buxton not only mentions spirits from the established whisky-producing countries (America, Scotland, Ireland, Japan), but also many newer distilleries to the whiskey game. The book features whiskies from Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, England, India, The Netherlands, Taiwan and Wales. But don’t let their exoticism intimidate you — all of the whiskies Buxton includes are both affordable and accessible. A believer in letting the palate grace as many of the huge range of whiskies available, Buxton lists international single malts, blends and, of course, a few anti-purist suggestions if you’re feeling a bit rebellious. 101 World Whiskies to Try Before You Die retails for $10.
