Fixed gear bikes get their Wallpaper

fixe

We’re admitted magazine fiends over here at LIAS, and it’s with great sadness that we’ve watched many of our favorite titles submerge in the last year (RIP Swindle, BPM, Portfolio, … but good riddance, Blender). That’s why we’re pretty stoked to see the launch of Fixé Magazine, a French publication focusing on the rise of fixed gear culture. Aesthetically, I love my fixed gear bikes — the lack of wires creates a cleanliness that’s almost unrivaled in transportation design, and the amount of customization reminds me of the halcyon days of my teen skateshops (lounging around watching Search for Animal Chin, trying on different combos of fluorescent green Slimeball wheels and Tracker trucks, not being able to afford any of them…aaaaah, youth). Even though shops in Los Angeles like LABrakeless , LBFG and Orange 20 have been propagating the fixed gear scene in So Cal for a bit, a new US magazine pushing the scene seems highly unlikely. Truthfully, Europeans just have a greater eye (and therefor market) for niche magazines with such strong visual standards; few seem to survive here. I mean, would we get away with a cover like that??? It’s neckbreaking. I’ve never been so overwhelmed with the desire to jump on my Raleigh and ride around town. I wonder why…?

Reminds me a bit of Intersection, which is hands down one of our favorite magazines. Shouldn’t be too much of a shock, as Intersection founder Yorgo Tloupos is listed on the Fixé cover. Published by Cream in France, you can buy Fixé at their online shop HERE.
