There’s no getting around the fact that music is pretty much free nowadays. And that’s why The Music Tee is two shades of brilliant… offering something tangible in the digital age. We’ve covered these folks before, but in case you’re not familiar, The Music Tee offers complete albums (plus a variety of compilations) in a t-shirt format, reviving “album art” as an integral—and emotionally compelling—part of the musical experience. In time for the holidays, The Music Tee is rolling out new tees from Monsters of Folk, Devandra Banhart, Lissy Trullie, Shwayze, Band of Skulls, Har Mar Superstar, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and many others. Order them here. Some of their previously released (and still available) tees include Mos Def, Amanda Blank, The Plastiscines, Sliimy and others. Each tee contains album art on the front, with a track list on the back. Each shirt comes with a hang-tag that contains a unique code, allowing the owner to download the album. The tee is registered with Nielsen SoundScan so each download counts as an album sale once the download is complete. If you don’t shop online, you can pick them up at various retail outlets including Ron Herman, Metro Park, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kitson, Shopbop, and dozens of other boutiques and chains. Artists (and their labels) are also selling their shirts on tour, on their websites and through various music distributors, just like CDs.
