Affordable art…what a concept. I love it. Couldn’t be easier either, each week 20×200 puts up two new pieces of art, typically one photo and one work on paper. The 20×200 handle comes from the $20 price tag of buying an edition of 200. For those with a little bit more to drop, they’ve created a few different size options: 17″x22″ editions of 20 for $200, and 30″x40″ editions of 2 for $2000, we now also offer something in between – 11″x14″ editions of 500 for $50 and 20″x24″ editions of 50 for $500. Every single print is delivered with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Here are a couple of photos from Mark Menjivar from San Antonio, TX. It’s from a series of portraits titled You Are What You Eat that documents the interiors of refrigerators in homes across the United States. The top photo is from the inside of a bar tender’s fridge. Eating take out every night of the week must suck. Especially compared to the one below, from a midwife / middle school science teacher from San Antonio, TX…after deciding to eat locally grown vegetables. The photos have not been manipulated: nothing added, nothing taken away. Mark Menjivar spent three years, traveling around the country shooting everyone from the rich and the poor, vegetarians, Republicans, members of the NRA, those left out, the under-appreciated, former soldiers in Hitler’s SS, dreamers. Pretty rad concept, if you ask me. There’s something oddly private about a refrigerator. It kinda feels weird opening up someone’s fridge. Even when I’m over at Madman’s house…and I’ve known that fool for over a decade. GOOD Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, Orion, The Atlantic, Beautiful/Decay and The Onion have featured Mark Menjivar’s series in print and online. The project won Director’s Choice in Center’s 2009 Project Competition and has traveled to five cities.
