Named after the late World Champion Grand Prix motorcycle racer Barry Sheene, the Icon Sheene aims to be the world’s most expensive and most powerful production motorcycle. And if it generates its expected 250+ horsepower, and they charge the announced $160,000 (£107,000), it certainly will be. Icon Motorcycle founder Andrew Morris plans on producing only 52 Icon Sheenes in total — one for each year of his hero Barry Sweene’s life. The engine is a hand-built Garrett turbocharged Suzuki GSX1400 air-cooled lump, wrapped in an all-aluminum, purpose-built tubular frame complemented by an aluminum swing-arm and carbon-fiber race wheels, hand-laid carbon-fiber bodywork, a handmade aluminum tank, twin hand-crafted aluminum oil coolers, a handmade stainless exhaust and F1-spec wiring throughout. Other details include etched and engraved plaques and yokes, a hand-painted 1940s style pin-up girl and Sheene’s lucky no.7 embroidered into the heart-shaped alcantara seat. Vroom vroom.

The outcome One hundred and eighteen horsepower, measured at the rear tyre on Carbonteks Fuchs dyno, a gain of 6.2bhp over stock. Six horse power doesnt sound like much for your 1200. But theres a weight saving the Akra weighs just 4.6kg in total versus 10.3kg for stock. It goes without saying that theres a beautiful yowl from the Akrapovic. As far as i’m concerned, it’s Akra or nothing.
