Arguably the most iconoclastic eyewear in the world celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, and in honor of the occasion Ray-Ban is releasing a Limited Edition Aviator to mark the legacy. Originally created in the 1930’s for US Army fighter pilots, what Aviators mean to me are much more than that. They are all my pops wore, and when I was a kid I wanted to be nothing like my old man. As I grew older, I realized there is nothing more I would like to be — if I evolve to be half the man he is, I will consider my life a success. When I had that epiphany I started wearing Aviators. Corny? Perhaps, but also true. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Every pair of the 70th Anniversary Aviators comes with a “Limited Edition” inscription on the inside of the arm, and is sold inside a special red gift box with a red leather commemorative pouch (see it after the Jump). Pick them up with either green or dark brown lenses. Pick up a pair for $300.
