When the first VW Golf GTI initially sprung from the laboratories at Wolfsburg, Volkswagen had no idea it had invented an entire new class of automobile. In the 35 years since, the VW Golf GTI has become a legend, the standard to which all other sporty compact cars judge themselves. To celebrate this anniversary GTI35 has designed an exclusive titanium-colored special model based on the current sixth generation of the GTI. The German tuning experts from Wunschel Sport have tweaked the standard GTI’s four-banger turbo adding 50 hps to the already spritely engine, now generating 260 hp (191 kW) at 5,700 rpm. It’s new 0-62 mph click of 6.4 seconds (with six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission) also bests its production brethren by half a second. Aside from all the slightly ostentatious badgery involved, the GTI35 also gets custom-tailored 19-inch OZ Racing Quaranta wheels and a lowered ride height. But just in case you didn’t get enough badging to let everyone know you have the 35th Anniversary edition, not just any GTI, the car also comes with a “decor kit” featuring an aluminum key chain, GTI35 parking sign, T-shirt and dog-tag. Way to show your allegiance. Available in either two- or four-door editions, the GTI35 starts at $46,300 (32,800 €).
