Who wouldn’t want a tiny action figure of Damien Hirst or Jeff Koons on their desk, just to mock relentlessly every time your boss gets grossly overpaid for something or hogs unnecessary credit for something he didn’t create? Or you can have some artist you actually respect — really it’s up to you. Visual artist and toy maker Mike Leavitt has made quite a name for himself crafting highly detailed — and incredibly expensive — action figures for some of the biggest names in the art world. Warhol, Julian Schnabel, Ron English, Robert Crumb… the list goes on. Some of his figures can be very clever, such as the Takahashi Murakami piece he just unveiled this week (below) which incorporates his own characters into the figure. Seeing as prices for Mike Leavitt’s toys… I mean “sculptures”… start at $900 and quickly go up from there, you better put your Basquiat up to buy that Basquiat action figure.
